In a contralateral eye study of 100 eyes of 50 patients with myopia and a
narrow angle of refractive error undergoing PRK and thin-flap LASIK via
femtosecond laser and wavefront analysis, 20/20 or better uncorrected visual
acuity was achieved in 48% of PRK eyes and 88% of LASIK eyes at 1 month.
However, vision equalized by 3 months, and there was no statistical difference
in UCVA between the two eyes at 6 months (94% vs. 92%, respectively).
Although patient-reported pain and eye dryness also equalized by 6 months,
patients more frequently reported these symptoms in their PRK eye in the
immediate postoperative period. At day 3, 88% of patients reported more pain in
their PRK eye, but the difference dissipated by 1 week. In a patient
questionnaire, patients reported more dryness in their PRK eye through 6 months.
There was no statistically significant difference in spherical aberration and
coma at any time point, the study authors said. Source: osnsupersite.com
